Recycling and Recycling Bins
By Richard N Williams
Recycling is now part of nearly everybody’s life. ‘Taking out the trash’ now involves more than just dumping a black bag out the front for the dustman or garbage collector to pick up. Recycling is now not just an ethical past time but in many areas is also a legal civic duty, with fines and sanctions often given to residents who fail to recycle properly.
Fortunately there is a huge a range of recycling bins available that make the task a lot easier and allows you to easily transport your recyclables to the curbside.
Recycling bins come in all shapes and sizes but most are based on the same principle - that the bins are divided into several compartments for the different recycling materials. Many of the most popular recycling bins on the market have colour coded compartments, this makes it easier to assign a compartment for a type of waste; such as: red for glass and blue for paper.
When shopping for a recycling bin it is best to think about what it will be used for. You may not want a huge 100 litre bin in your kitchen for instance, although it would be great for outside. Likewise a small recycling pedal bin will soon get full so you will be hard pushed to keep an entire week’s worth of recycling in there.
Another purpose of recycling bins, like normal bins, is to keep the smell down, so ensure you get a decent enough sized bin so the lid will close properly.
Pedal bins are great for the kitchen and save you bending or handling the bin itself and some even have colour coded pedals. There are other interesting designs around such as recycling bins that make use of old plastic bags - these make great waste paper baskets and allows you to make use of all those non-degradable plastic bags which are re-used in the bin.

Recycling Methods
By Guna Seelan
Recycling generally involves the processing of final products so that they become ready for another use. This method is becoming more and more relevant in the current scenario when waste management is the need of the hour. This is because of the fact that wastes of natural resources are taking place at an unprecedented growth. Therefore, recycling can be a quick fix solution to restrict the uncontrollable rate of wastage which is harming our ecological balance in a catastrophic way. That is why recycling is graded as the one of the effective solutions to curb further wastage of natural resources.
Recycling can be undertaken on various objects like paper, textiles, plastic, metal, glass and electronics. The main advantage of recycling is that they can be reused properly.
There are numerous methods that can be taken as strong measures against global warming and ecological imbalance. Some of these methods are mentioned below:
• Paper recycling: Under paper recycling or eco recycling, paper products are recycled so that they can be used further. This recycling activity can help in avoiding deforestation of trees and plants.
• E-waste recycling: E-waste recycling is basically non biodegradable products recycling that have finally reached its final end life. They include all the electronic products including laptops, computers, computers, mobile phones and calculators. Most of them generally lie in junkyards of home completely unattended and finally added in the landfills. And recycling of these non biodegradable products help in reducing pollution level and on the other side, help largely in saving extractions of mineral resources.
• Mineral recycling: This is another recycling phenomenon being used to preserve natural resources like lead, aluminum, and gold among others. Under this recycling process, smelting processes are used and therefore, minerals refining is done so as to increase their utility.
