I came across Dr. Masuro Emoto’s work after hearing him recommended by Gregg Braden. I purchased the book first, and was so delighted that getting the DVD was a no-brainer.

The DVD is a simple presentation of how Dr. Emoto came to experiment with vibration through the medium of water. We see that its not as simple getting the crystals to form as it may seem. They use many samples of water from a single batch, and not all of these coalesce into coherent patterns. I’m only surmising but it seems that the intensity of our degree of focus and intention dictates the clarity of the crystal manifestation. So trying to replicate this experiment could be quite challenging. I would have liked to have seen more stats on the failure rates.

Despite this, the visual feast of seeing the direct and instant impact our consciousness has on energy thru the medium of water, is fascinating. In many ways the photo’s provide an instant internal recognition of just how sensitive and powerful our biological bodies are to the vibrations in the environment.

Although this DVD is somewhat being promoted due to its subject matter being shown on What the Bleep, it rightfully stands on its own two feet.

Its great to see this type of wisdom being pioneered from Japan.

Regards,

Daniel John Hancock

After seeing the small bit about the research on Water Crystals in the movie “What the Bleep Do We Know” (another very good movie!) I wanted to learn more about this Japanese researcher and his work. That is why I ordered this DVD. It was a wonderful synopsis of how this researcher from Japan discovered the hidden healing messages that water has to share with us. It is truely amazing. This DVD is in English Language and also has some parts with English subtitles. It is a wonderful way to introduce people to this information. For those I have shown it to they were utterly amazed by it!

For newcomers, this cartoon is simply and beautifully illustrated, moves at a leisurely pace, and teaches life lessons without being preachy.

The episodes included are as follows:

The treasure hunt- Tiger brings over a metal detector but gets frustrated when he finds nothing but junk with it. Kipper helps out by burying his piggy bank for Tiger to find.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Kipper - Playtime! Click Here

Looking after Arnold- Kipper babysits little Arnold one afternoon, and exhausts himself (I’m sure parents of toddlers can relate to that one).

Tiger’s Joke Box- Tiger plays practical jokes on everyone, and ends up being the butt of a joke himself

Pig’s Sweater- really funny, Pig insists on wearing his new sweater, even if it’s sweltering outside.

Clay Time- the whole gang has fun with a potter’s wheel.

The Magic Carpet- Kipper takes a trip to the moon and meets friendly aliens. (Your child may ask for a magic carpet after this one).

Kipper the Hero- Kipper helps rescue a kitten caught in a tree.

My almost 4 year old will watch nothing but Kipper. I actually find myself laughing along with the characters when I watch with him.

Kipper is a mischievous puppy with a British accent who spends his time finding adventures with pals Arnold, Tiger, Pig, and Zebra. The series is based on the best selling books by Mike Inkpen. The stories are fun and easy to follow, foster ceative thinking, and reinforce messages such as cooperation, courtesy and kindness. And in regular language? Kipper is the perfect my-child-needs-to-unwind-and-it’s-witching-hour-but-gotta-get-dinner-on-the-table video. It’s completely non-grating, which may be important to those adults out there that are “Wiggled” or “Tuttered” out (for those familiar with the hyperactive puppet in “Bear In The Big Blue House”). Simply put, it’s a good show and does not promote ADHD: more likely, it’s even an antidote.

This was so disappointing to me. “My Life as a Dog” was one of my all-time favorite films. I already had it on video, and wanted to have a cleaner copy on DVD, as well as some features.

! IT IS NOT, I repeat, *NOT* WIDESCREEN!

Worse, the transfer is grainy, and there seems to be little or no remastering. CRITERION would do a bang-up job on this film, it’s just a shame that so many distributers can’t get their act together and put a little effort into what they’re doing.

If you want to hear commentary, see it in its original film ratio, or even see a decent transfer for heaven’s sake, go to Criterion’s web-site and send them a message that you want to see this film done right.

You might also go to Fox Lorber’s web site, and let them know you expect more than VHS-on-a-disk. DVD, as a media, is in a critical state right now, and the studios are trying to see if the general public will accept bare-bones releases. We need to let them know that we won’t.

Few movies come this close to perfection. This is an intelligent and moving story of a boy who must come to terms with abandonment, loss and the casual betrayal of adults. Extremely well acted on all sides, with a bold script that dares to ask the important questions. Ingemar must try to find some balance in his life, as he is tossed from one “home” to another, like a stray dog… or, like the Soviet space-dog Laika, who was sent into space only to starve to death in orbit. “They never intended to bring her back.” The final scenes of “My Life as a Dog” do win out, when the odd town’s crazy old man takes a swim in the frozen river. The whole cast of peculiar town-folk come out to “rescue” him, and offer him a place by the fire, a blanket, a little whiskey… Here, Ingemar finds balance in the love of other people, so one is left, not with a sense of despair, but with a sense of hope in the midst of sorrow and loss.

Note: I recommend the subtitled version over the dubbed version, as the language and inflections should be experienced in full.

Indicates how he influenced America during the hard times and changed baseball forever. Despite Ruth’s rough life style his talents and popularity are unprecedented and unquestioned. This was the age before good equipment (bats, gloves, etc), and strength enhancing drugs.

Very good narration and dialogue on this vhs. Highly recommend it for baseball and history fans alike. There will never be another Ruth and he’s the proof and that’s the truth. Look how his totality of records have stood the test of time and are the measure to which others are compared.

An hour well spent.

This is quite frankly the finest documentary on the life and times of Babe Ruth that I’ve seen. I was mesmorized from start to finish; an absolute gem and a must for any Babe Ruth fan.

This tape has great and action packed episodes like “The Desert Gang” and “The Dark Giant” featuring the super Zoid Elephander. These episodes also introduce two of the three new types of Liger Zero,Jager, and Shneider. These episodes also have some pretty funny parts. So I reccomend this tape to anyone who likes exciting episode. Get the popcorn and Pepsi it’s starting.

I enjoyed this movie as it had more than it’s share of twists & turns. The action is great, I like the actors & it’s less than $10 for the Blu-ray right now, that’s even less than the DVD! The video quality looked great on my 106″ screen through my 1080p Mits HC5000 projector. Grab some popcorn, your favorite drink, sit back and enjoy the ride….with a little chaos along the way! :-)

This movie doesn’t really live up to the cast or the concept. Right out of the shoot it feels a little over the top. I think this movies wants to be something more than it really is. The acting is sub-par, the writing the same. The way the story is told is OK. I don’t want to give too much away about the plot, so I’ll leave my opinion of that off this review.

This is great movie and a must have for anyone who loves the classic Western. Robert Wagner plays the leading role as surveyer Josh Tanner. Tanner befriends the young chief Little Dog of the Cheyenne (Jeffrey Hunter) and falls in love with the young chiefs sister played by Debra Paget. The Cheyenne and other tribes are to be moved from their Wyoming hunting grounds and John Lund as Colonel Lindsey leads U.S. army’s push to resettle the indians. Tanner’s attraction to the chiefs sister threatens to endanger a peaceful settlement. The highpoint of the tension between army and Cheyenne arrives when Little Dog and his friend American Horse send an arrow with a white feather their symbol to wager war.

I saw this movie three times when it was first released and again about four years after at a tiny movie house reserved for ‘quality’ films. At long last, it is now available on DVD. Congratulations to the ‘powers-that-be’ for bringing it to the public at long last! I have had a taped copy of the movie for sometime, which I watched periodically. I am glad to own now it on DVD. Great to see it again in widescreen format. I find the storyline compelling and also find that the actors play their roles with conviction. I especially enjoy Eduard Franz at the Chief. He expresses his pain remarkably well on his face. John Lund is suitably sympathetic as the army officer. The main roles are played well by a cast at the start of their careers. Jeffery Hunter is especially noteworthy as Little Dog. I recommend this movie to everyone - and even to those who do not enjoy westerns. This is not a movie to be dismissed and, again, although it has been a ‘long time coming’, the wait has been worthwhile. Now, all I need is for 20th Century Fox to make available the DVD of ‘The Egyptian’ and ‘That Lady’ and my collection will be complete.

Lucio Fulci…while many may not be familiar with the name or his work, he has developed a dedicated and even hardcore audience, mostly due to the extremely graphic nature of the horror films he made from the late 70’s into the 80’s. What some may not know are those films only made up part of his repertoire, as he also was involved in thrillers, musicals, comedies, westerns, and even a sword and sorcery picture, titled Conquest (1983). This Italian/Spanish/Mexican production (it states this in the beginning during the credits, and, for some reason, it didn’t inspire a sense confidence in this viewer), directed by Fulci, stars individuals I’ve never heard of, including a fairly well muscled Jorge Rivero (Rio Lobo), the very effeminate Andrea Occhipinti (Bolero), and the very naked Sabrina Siani (sounds like a western…The Muscled, the Effeminate, and the Naked).

Buy,Download, Or Stream Conquest! Click Here

So what is the film about? I really wish I could say with a degree of certainty, but the plot, what there was, was pretty convoluted. There’s a young warrior named Ilias (Occhipinti) who, prior to leaving his village (I guess to go off to become more manly), is presented with a magical bow, one that shoots arrows made of pure light, that is once the user figure out how to activate that feature. Until that happens, it can be used to shoot regular arrows. Anyway, Ilias goes off, and meets up with a nomadic wanderer named Mace (Rivero), whose main choice of weapon is a very poorly made pair of nunchucks, or, two harden pieces of wood attached by a length of rope. While they’re running around bonding and stuff (ew), a local evil sorceress named Ocron (Siani), I thought it was Okra, as that what it kept sounding like throughout the film, learns of a man with a strange and powerful weapon (the bow…I find it difficult to believe few people in this world had not heard of a bow and arrow, probably one of the earliest forms of ranged weapons) and knows she must possess it for her own. Also, she’s been having dreams regarding her own demise at the hands of a faceless warrior, one who shoots her with an arrow. In an effort to prevent these premonitions from becoming a reality, she sends her various minions to retrieve Ilias and his weapon, which leads up to a some what climatic final battle between good and evil…a common theme in the genre, a hero, or a group of heroes, suffers adversity to rid the land of a powerful enemy blah, blah, blah…

I’ve seen a lot of films, and I’ve seen a number of films within the sword and sorcery genre, and I have to say Conquest falls a bit short in comparison. It does meet a number of requirements within the genre (heroes, magic, good, evil), but lacks in the execution. First thing you’ll notice is nearly the entire film is shot with a sense that someone smeared Vaseline on the camera lens, giving everything a hazy quality sure to induce headaches early on (the film runs 92 minutes). Also, Fulci must own stock in a company that sells fog producing machines, as nearly every scene also was inundated with a heaping helping of smoke, further obscuring the viewer’s ability to see what’s going on…the acting isn’t horrible, but the dialog is…an example…Ilias and Mace are trapped in a cave and Ilias spots a snake, to which Mace responds, “He’s harmless if he doesn’t bite you.” Well duh…if a ten-ton boulder was suspended over my head with a piece of twine, it would harmless unless the string broke…the characters themselves are goofy and lacking any sense of likeability. An example of this is Mace and Ilias (our two heroes) are traveling together, and Mace is learning how to use the bow. They come across a lowly, completely non-threatening hunter, carrying a dead animal, and Mace shoots and kills him and they take the dead animal so that they may eat it…how very heroic…oh yeah, Mace seems to have a psychic link with animals, and doesn’t kill them, but has no problems killing others who’ve killed animals and taking their food to eat for himself. Ocron (the evil sorceress) sports a metal, horned bikini bottom and no top, and spends a lot of time having intimate relations with snakes (ew) and eating the brains of her recently killed victims (you see, the head is the `temple of secrets’ and it’s also quite tasty, or so I’ve heard). She commands odd group of henchmen, including wolfmen, regular men, and various animated zombie-like characters, all enabling her to lord over a relatively small group of savages. Most all the women in the film are topless, which helps, but is entirely gratuitous, serving no real purpose other than to take your mind off the fact the film is so weak in general. The directing ranges from passable to poor, including pointless POV shots, stupid slow motion that only serves to drag the run time out much further than needed, and ineptly choreographed fight scenes. I found the mostly electronic musical score to be highly annoying, monotonous, and inappropriate. Fans of Fulci’s stylistic approach to visceral gore will enjoy the inclusion of a smattering of graphic scenes here (brains, puss leaking sores, gore spurting wounds), but it’s nowhere near the levels in his horror films, so they may be ultimately dissatisfied. People not familiar with his penchant for splattery will probably be put off and find it hard to watch.

Blue Underground presents an exceptional widescreen print transfer on this DVD, despite all the funky cinematography. Special features include two theatrical trailers (U.S. and international), poster and still galleries with lots of good-looking pictures, and a fairly comprehensive and informative biography on Lucio Fulci. All in all, unless you’re a Fulci completist, you might want to skip Conquest, as its’ appeal is extremely limited, in my opinion.

Cookieman108

Ever wonder what a sword and sorcery flick by Lucio Fulci would be like? Look no further than Blue Underground’s recent release of Conquest. Ya know, I’d been looking for this movie since I was 12 years old for crying out loud! Thanks again to Blue Underground.

CONQUEST: We got our first hero who I’ll call “Idiot”, mainly because he is. Idiot is given a magical bow by some old mystic guy. He’s not given any particular quest or anything, some claptrap about reaching his manhood. I guess he’s just supposed to be an all around do-gooder. The bow is magical because once it runs out of arrows it’s able to pull the sun from the sky and shoot really cool blue sun-power arrows. To me this is kind of a lame contraption coz personally, I’d just throw away all the regular arrows and just use the sun powered ones. Our hero doesn’t do this coz he’s not too bright. Our villian is a topless, masked sorceress who’s job is basically to send out her army of men in cheap werewolf costumes to make life miserable for everyone in the land. After a successful raid and a shot of a fantasyland equivalent of LSD/cocaine(administered in the same fashion as launching a spitball), she sees a vision of Idiot coming to kill her, so she sends out her silly Chewbacca/werewolf things to kill him. Around this time we meet our second hero who I call Manowar-basically coz he looks like he may have tried out for the band once, but got the boot. Manowar’s job for the rest of the film is to save Idiot’s butt when ever he gets captured or in trouble. Manowar is the true hero of the film. This is the basis of our movie. Idiot and Manowar meet lots of perils and dangers while on the run and in pursuit of the masked naked woman until the final showdown. Who wins? You’ll have to watch. This film is 100% heckle material. It’s very entertaining if you like this kind of thing. Fulci brings his trademark gore to the film(which you kind of wish Peter Jackson would have done when he made a fantasy film), and a funky soundtrack! He also must have attached a fog machine to the camera coz this film looks like it was shot in a cloud. Highly recommended.

Weiss Kreuz Gluhen is a decent series in my opinion. It’s not on the great level but it’s decent. I loved the characters and the plot went along smoothly. I haven’t seen the original series but I hear the character designs were changed due to legal issues. The characters in this season are different from those in the other seasons. This is definitely enjoyable but it’s not over the top excellent.

Many reviewers are expressing their frustration at this short series for not living up to the original. Not having seen the original, I can offer an opinion of the series unbiased by comparisons. As with most Anime, I looked up the series on Wikipedia to distinguish between the characters, the different iterations of the series, etc. Amazon *does* describe this product accurately, if you read the series description. If you read the Wikipedia entry, you’d know to be wary of this.

Weiss Kreuz Gluehen (lit. “Glowing White Cross”) - Knight Hunters Eternity IS separate and different from the earlier series as a result of a lawsuit. Just the way it is.

That said, artistically I found this series quite beautiful. The plot starts off a little bit slow, to establish the new characters introduced in this series. But soon enough the plot thickens, there are twists, turns, betrayals, defiance of orders, and retribution. Like much Japanese anime, this series does not shirk from killing off major characters, and the body count in this series is staggeringly high.

There’s a goodly bit of blood and gore, though not as extreme as say, Elfen Lied.

The animation is well done, the characters have very convoluted, troubled pasts that weigh heavily upon each of them. The ending of the series is a nominal victory for Weiss, but it takes a heavy, tragic toll on all of them. Still, it is an emotionally satisfying ending, if you have a sufficient appreciation for tragedy, irony and poetic justice.

I hold back from giving the series 5 stars because of the horrible mispronunciation if the German words used in the series in the English dub. I cringed at hearing “Rosenkreuz” pronounced “Rosencruise”, and there was not one hint of a German accent among any of the voice actors doing the German characters. This series was recorded in NYC, and they couldn’t cast a single actor who could do a passable German accent for those characters? Unbelievable (and for comparision, Satella Harvenheit in Chrono Crusade was a bit exaggerated in her accent, but at least it was still believable)! Still, the voice actors did a great job fleshing out their characters, there is a lot of emotion and pathos that went into their various performances, and my hat’s off to them. My favorite voice actors are still the Houston-based ADV Films crew, but these (NYAV Post) were acceptable.

Don’t forget to check out the “outtakes” feature of the individual volumes…mostly bloopers, and the voice actors/director screwing around & having fun–they are hysterically funny, and this is something I wish ADV Films would do for their DVDs…

To confess, I’m not a enormous “dismay anime” buff but typically indulge in series based on successful video game franchises. As such it was with a blend of expectations that I region out to review Tokyo Majin, The Complete Series.

Interestingly enough, it appears as though Funimation has actually released this previous ADV Films’ property as two individual season sets and is now planning a complete series box area, which contains all 26 episodes of the expose.

Released across four discs (in a double-sized clamshell case), The Complete Series consists of episodes 1-26 and comes in at a total runtime of 650 minutes. It wears an appropriate TV MA (outmoded, 17+) rating due to violence, gore, and supernatural imagery.

Language options are standard sub & dub with both an English dub (Dolby 5.1 Digital Surround) and unique Japanese soundtrack (stereo) & the choice of English subtitled if so inclined to turn them on.

The narrative goes something like this: The mystical energy budge that maintains order to the world (the Dragon Stream) has been disrupted. As a assert result of this disturbance, a whole bunch incidents have erupted across Tokyo, including a surge of deaths, plagues of zombies, and six teenagers (who want nothing more than to live the simple life of students) suddenly gaining mystical powers.

It’s tough to save the display into a single category; it would be foolish to downplay the supernatural/ mystical elements as they are catalyst that drives the site but in terms of delivery and pacing, Tokyo Majin may more closely resemble an action series. In other words yes there are some glum environments throughout and attempts at depth by establishing conflicted pasts for a few of the main characters, the series is really the medium in which to showcase super-human action sequences. Teenagers who can fire attractive mystical arrows from a bow or a tough guy who can uppercut through hordes of swarming monsters is going to be gracious onscreen fun, bottom line.

Viewers can query episodes loaded with frightening creatures, flashy magical effects, and fight scenes loaded to the hilt with animation detail. For the most share, the formula works so long as you go into the demonstrate without expectations of a deep psychological thriller element. This is superhero fun against the legions of the underworld first and foremost; drama and mystery support only to compliment the greater mission at hand.

The visuals are exquisite solid throughout with honest the just texturing (and gore elements) to acquire for some truly sinful nasties and the environmental tones are nice and gritty as well. The sound work is solid for the most share, with eerie notes working nicely into the background and slick tension-building strings when the mood calls for them. Unfortunately the hard rock anthem done by ACID at the opening and closing of each episode comes off as a bit misguided until you realize that it is the theme for the improper rock star villain later on in the prose.

In all, this is a point to where the visuals and effects certainly outshine the writing but perhaps that’s exactly what makes it so novel. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a dinky supernatural butt whipping by some everyday kids. It’s also really decent of Funimation to believe their fans in deciding to release a corpulent 26-episode box area release for cramped more than the individual seasons have been selling for until now.
